At Covenant House New York, we focus on providing our employees with extensive opportunities for professional growth. We offer excellent supplementary training in addition to our extensive on-boarding and orientation processes.
All staff at CHNY undergo a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training per year. Trainings cover a wealth of issues – including child protection policies, Safe Crisis Management for de-escalating crisis situations, legal issues affecting young people, incident reporting, case records and confidentiality, suicide prevention, and more. We work with Day One to provide training on issues related to family and intimate partner violence.
We also partner with the True Colors Fund to provide comprehensive training to all staff on working with clients who identify as LGBTQ. We believe it is critical to provide an environment where all youth feel safe and respected, and emphasizing training in LGBTQ-related practice is key.
CHNY strives to offer the professional development our staff needs to have a positive impact on our youth — from the very first day and beyond.
