Each year, over 800 volunteers donate thousands of hours of service to Covenant House New York. The support of these individuals and groups enable us to continue to provide comprehensive services for our young people. By assisting our staff and offering assistance to young people, volunteers play an important role in Covenant House New York’s success.

To find out more about any of our volunteer opportunities, please email chnyvolunteer@covenanthouse.org.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Sleep Out

Anyone can join our Sleep Out movement!  This year, 4.2 million kids will be homeless in America.  When you Sleep Out, you’re not just raising funds and awareness – you’re showing homeless youth your commitment to their future.  By joining or starting your own Sleep Out today, you’ll raise lifesaving funds to give kids safe shelter and opportunity and unite your community against youth homelessness.

  • Workforce Development

Our two-week job readiness class teaches basic skills to prepare our young people for the world of work.  Volunteers join us to conduct mock interviews and participate in a career panel with the students using questions we provide, or other questions that come to mind.  It is an excellent opportunity to interact with our students while getting to know them and assisting them with fundamental career-building skills.

  • Life Skills Workshops

Bring your skills to our youth with a workshop designed to teach any variety of life skills.  You can create and pitch your own ideas for a workshop in your area of expertise.

  • Clothing Room Assistant

Help our clothing room look its best! Clothing room assistants organize and sort items based on styles and colors.  This position is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 5:50 p.m.

  • Personal Shopper/ Stylist

Do you like fashion and creating stylish, coordinated outfits? Consider becoming a personal shopper on week days at CHNY for our youth.
