LGBTQ Youth

We believe all youth deserve unconditional love and absolute respect – LGBTQ youth are no exception.

29% of youth at Covenant House New York identify as LGBTQ. Many of these young people state that the reason they became homeless was because of their sexual orientation or gender expression. LGBTQ youth are also more likely to struggle with mental health issues, including suicide. It is critical to provide a safe and welcoming space for all youth who identify as LGBTQ.

Covenant House New York works with LGBTQ youth using trauma-informed and evidence-based practices, and all of our staff participate in specialized training to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and awareness to provide the most welcoming environment for our young people. We partner with multiple organizations, including the True Colors Fund, to ensure that we are providing an environment where LGBTQ youth always feel safe, respected, and valued.
