Our Newest Site is Open in the Bronx!

March 26, 2021

We’re thrilled to announce that our newest site, a shelter for female-identifying youth ages 21-24, is now officially open in the Bronx! We are so excited to start welcoming young people experiencing homelessness to this beautiful space.

The grand opening of this new shelter has been nearly two years in the making! So many people worked tirelessly to make it happen, and we couldn’t have opened the site without the hard work of countless CHNY staff. We’re so grateful for all of their hard work to make our new Bronx site feel as safe and welcoming as possible for up to 20 young women.

This new shelter was made possible by a new and unique funding opportunity through New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). The site will help address the need for shelter and services for young people who have “aged out” of other DYCD-funded programs once they turn 21. We’re thrilled that our new site can provide housing for this demographic of young people on their way to independence.

We had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 12 to celebrate and are so excited to welcome young people experiencing homelessness into this brand new space. We had balloons, cake, and other delicious snacks and refreshments for staff and youth to make the move into their new home extra special. Check out the photos of the opening day!
